2018 FUMÉ BLANC

“Phew-may Blonk”

History

The Mornington Estate range was created to display the varietal diversity of the Peninsula.

Fumé Blanc essentially means smoky white in French and is actually a made up term (now legally established). It is the same grape as Sauvignon Blanc, the name refers to the smoky flavours that occur when the Sauvignon Blanc wine has been aged in oak

Wine Making

Peter wanted to pack a bit of punch in to this Sauvignon Blanc grape and create something a little bit different

The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed simply means that the grapes were not removed from the stalks, this gives a slight green and fresh flavour to the wine. The wine was left to ferment in French Oak barrels which complements the greenness of the wine

Taste Profile

Mango & passion fruit complemented by a slightly smoky finish

Food Pairing

A wonderful choice with herb-driven sauces over chicken, tofu or fish dishes, matched with feta or goats cheese, and paired with Thai and Vietnamese cuisine
